Time to Refocus on Your Personal Brand

By October 14, 2023October 20th, 2023Personal Branding

Have you ever noticed that you tend to see what your mind focuses on? If your mind is focused on pregnancies, then pregnant people are all you will see. If your mind is focused on a certain type of car, then chances are that is all you will see on the roads. It’s like our thoughts have some magnetic powers that call out to the universe.

This phenomenon reminds me of a friend who had been called to make a presentation in front of a large audience. For every second that he waited to get onto the stage, all he could see was himself tripping over the many cables that were connecting the equipment placed all around the stage. True to his thoughts, he did indeed trip on the wires on the stage. It was as if his thoughts called out to this action.

The same principle applies to our lives. The world tends to respond to us based on what we seek from it through our thoughts. If our thoughts are focused on the negative aspects, we will engage in actions that perpetuate negativity. Conversely, if our thoughts are positive, our actions will follow suit.

Now, as we find ourselves in the last quarter of the year, it’s a good time to reflect on what we’ve been focusing on. For each one of us, the list of ‘focus areas’ or resolutions that we set at the beginning of the year may or may not have been achieved.

Therefore, this outcome depends largely on where our focus has been throughout the year. If you’ve been diligent in regularly checking on your goals, you’ve likely made progress. However, if you tucked them away and forgot about them, it’s probable that little has been accomplished.

The good news is, it’s not too late to take action. I challenge you today to find that list, dust it off, and focus on one or two key items that you can work on and potentially achieve within the next three months.

In addition, your personal brand also requires focused attention for it to thrive. This mindset is essential for personal growth and influencing the perception of the market in your favor. Many people wait for a crisis to start working on their personal brands, but the most successful personal brands are those nurtured consistently, with a clear intention of delivering a seamless and unique value proposition to those around you.

Neglecting your personal brand is akin to storing your resolutions in a drawer and hoping that something magical will transform them from mere words into action. However, without putting in the effort behind your goals and your personal brand, very little will be accomplished.

So, what can you do to ensure you maintain focus on your personal brand?

  1. Decide what you want to stand for. Take time to reflect on what sets you apart from others. Determine the specific objectives you want to achieve through your personal brand. Are you looking to establish yourself as an expert in a particular field, build a strong online presence, or network with influential individuals? Having clear goals helps you focus your efforts.
  2. Dedicate regular time (daily, weekly, monthly) to actions that promote personal brand growth and visibility. Building a personal brand is an ongoing process that requires consistent effort. Depending on your priority objectives, your list of actions will vary. For example, if your one goal for your personal brand is establishing a strong online presence, then regularly creating and sharing content helps establish you as a thought leader in your chosen area. If networking is the priority objective, then attending industry events, joining relevant online communities, and connecting with peers takes precedence.
  3. Continuously assess what is working, refine your strategies, and adjust your actions accordingly. Building a personal brand is not a static process; it evolves over time. Regularly evaluate the impact of your efforts. Are you achieving the goals you set for your personal brand? The business landscape and your personal circumstances may change. Be willing to adapt your personal brand strategy to stay current and aligned with your goals.
  4. Experiment and Innovate: Don’t be afraid to try new approaches or explore different channels to promote your personal brand. Innovation can help you stand out and reach new audiences.

Is it time to give your Personal Brand a fresh start? I challenge you to invest some effort today in nurturing your Personal Brand, and you will be pleasantly surprised by the results it will yield the next time you assess your focus list or resolutions.
